ATPCO takes active role in developing airline XML standardsFor immediate release As the airline industry leader in fare data standards and solutions, ATPCO has been invited to join Open AXIS Group, a new non-profit organization set up to promote a standardized XML schema for airline system connectivity. ATPCO will become a founding Allied Member of the organization and Tom Gregorson, ATPCO’s Senior Director of Product Strategy and Development, will hold a seat on the Board of Directors. “Membership in the Open AXIS Group aligns with ATPCO’s mission of serving as an advocate and champion for airline industry standards and solutions,” said Mr. Gregorson. “By joining Open AXIS Group at its inception, we have the opportunity to work in a leadership role in the development and implementation of XML standards for carriers. Our voting seat on the Board also will further our ability to serve as an honest broker, building community consensus and defining standards and solutions for the benefit of all involved parties.” In a press release issued today, Jim Young, Executive Director of the Open AXIS Group, said, “the Open AXIS group has recognized ATPCO’s success as an airline advocate and standards body. As such, the organization strategically sought out ATPCO’s participation to assist the Open AXIS Group in maintaining common standard integrity and interoperability with the existing ATPCO standards.” ATPCO brings to the Open AXIS Group more than 35 years of experience in setting industry-adopted standards for airfares and fare-related data. In developing the standardized airline XML schema, Open AXIS Group will benefit from ATPCO’s proven standard-setting methodology with formalized industry coordination and milestone processes. Additionally, ATPCO maintains a unique perspective that allows it to recognize how XML will best serve direct connect tools and global distribution systems. This knowledge, as well as ATPCO’s extensive history of standards setting, will help ensure the XML standards are designed for maximum usability, consistency and flexibility. The Open AXIS Group’s standard XML schema will support the full range of airline transactions, including booking, ticketing, exchange, refunds, voids and the various merchandising-related transactions like optional services and EMD management. It will also be capable of delivering comprehensive functionality to both the supply and demand sides of the travel supply chain. Open AXIS Group is open to all travel industry entities and offers two categories of membership: full membership for airlines only and allied membership for non-airline entities. In addition to ATPCO, founding members of the group include Air Canada, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and US Airways. ATPCO is an Allied Member that will serve on the Board. Click here for more information about the Open AXIS Group. |
