Gary Bergstrom has 23 years of experience in the airline industry in the travel distribution ecosystem. He has been serving on ATPCO’s Standards and Industry Governance team as a business analyst for the last five years. Previously at Travelport, Gary worked for 10 years primarily as a programmer, then spent eight more years as a business analyst and working extensively with IATA enhancing industry standards for ticketing and EDIFACT messaging. Gary holds a BS in Industrial Engineering.

Standards are written by humans but many standards are ultimately applied via computer programming. Writing your standards with the computer programmer in mind can help make the processing and application of your standards more consistent. Developing standards using consistent terminology can also improve the results of both enterprise search and web search. This talk focuses on how to improve technical standards from the perspective of someone who has performed both the computer programmer and business analyst roles in standards development.
