Glossary for the airline industry

International zone level. The directory level that defines the area of applicability in the add-on construction process.

PAC

Partner Access Control.

partner

An organization identified by the tariff owner who has some level of authority over the tariff owner's data.

Partner Access Control

Previously known as PASS, Partner Access Control enables the data-owning organization to authorize users at a partner organizations to view, create, or update changes to rule, footnote, fare, and/or add-on data.

partnership

An agreement between a data owner and another organization, or multiple organizations, that permits access to the provider’s data on ATPCO databases. Partnerships are managed through instructions to ATPCO, and partner organizations may be other carriers or may be vendors such as a business process outsourcing company (BPO).

PASS

ATPCO's Partner Access Security System. Allows an organization (the partner) to view, print, create, or update changes to specified rules and footnotes of another organization (the owner). Partners with remote access will then be able to access the owner's data using their current sign-ons. This access is available for both public and private tariffs and both filed and unfiled data. To invoke access through this system, the owner must send an instruction in writing authorizing specific data for each partner. Now called Partner Access Control.

passenger service system

This essential component of an airline's operations typically includes a fare quote system, a reservation system (selling tickets), inventory management (available seats in each booking class), and a departure control system (passenger check-in).

passenger type

Codes that specify that a passenger qualifies as a specific type, such as accompanied child, military, standby, senior citizen, or companion. Valid types are displayed on a help screen in the FareManager Rules system and are listed in Appendix A of the Automated Rules user documentation.

PCC

Pseudo City Code.

PDEW

Passengers per Day Each Way. A total capacity measure of individual markets. Measures how many passengers, on average, travel between two cities each day.

PDP

Project Development Plan.

PFC

Passenger Facility Charge.

PI1

ATPCO record containing data provided by IATA that stores conversion rates from currencies to NUCs. Exchange rates are normally updated quarterly. It is used in fare construction engines to convert add-ons and fares, calculate the total, construct the fare, and then convert the final amount to the appropriate currency.

PI2

ATPCO record containing data provided by IATA that lists countries who publish fares in US dollars or euros and stores conversion rates from the native currency to NUCs. Exchange rates are normally updated quarterly. It is coded for the sole purpose of supporting the Construction Data subscription product.

PIPPS

ATPCO’s Passenger Interline Pricing/Prorate System. An online system used by airline revenue accounting departments to obtain historical fare and prorate information to divide the revenue from tickets covering joint transportation.

PIT

Passenger International Tariff.

PMP

PNR

Passenger Name Record, or Personal Name Record, is the six-character code that is the reference for a reservation. This is created at time of reservation, and contains the identifying details of the traveler (name, passport info) as well as the fare, ticket, and payment information.

PNR Wrap-Up

A message sent consolidating all PNR details, including passenger, itinerary, and fee information, that provides an update to down-line systems to allow passenger servicing.
